3 Tips for Preparing Your Preschooler For the New School Year

Moms & dads all over the county are shopping for school supplies and stocking up on tissues for the first day of school send-off.

#BetterTogether is brought to you by the Tuscarawas County Board of Developmental Disabilities.

There’s pressure to prepare your child for preschool and kindergarten, but what do you really need to do before the first day of school to ensure they’re in for a great year? Check out these three steps!

  1. Soak up the togetherness. The school year can be hectic and fast paced. Enjoy the last few days of summer. Go for family walks in the evening. Play at the park. Have a family movie night or game night together.
  2. Get plenty of sleep & start practicing a morning schedule. It doesn’t have to be intricate- just start setting an alarm for your kids. Remind them that they will have a limited amount of time to get dressed and eat breakfast. (Put together a night-before routine, too!)
  3. Remind your preschooler or kindergartener that they are BRAVE. New experiences can be scary. If your child is getting a little nervous as the summer ends, remind them that they are brave and school is a safe place for learning and growing! The teachers are excited to see them and help them make friends and learn new things.

Change is hard for everyone. Allow yourself some grace as schedules shift and kids grow.
