Buying gifts for family and friends, decorating your home, and hosting elaborate holiday parties are big demands for moms during the yuletide season.
This informational campaign comes to you in partnership with the Stark County Community Action Agency.
How are you staying sane this holiday season? What steps are you taking to protect your physical and mental health? Have you taken time to evaluate your “traditions” and whether or not they spark joy in your holiday season?
Season Greetings and Happy Holidays
Here are a few steps you can take to improve your experience and keep the happy in your holidays!
- Wash your hands, get some sleep, and take your vitamins.
- Don’t be afraid to say no. Turning down invitations, whether to protect your mental health or physical health, is an option. Your family and friends love you- they will understand, even if they are disappointed at first.
- Move your body and exercise, but don’t obsess over calories.
- If you are uncomfortable with a conversation, remove yourself. Try saying something like, “This is a topic we don’t all agree on and I’d like to steer clear of it, please.” You’re not obligated to discuss anything you don’t want to!
- Remember that the holidays are stressful for everyone. Your kids might be overstimulated, exhausted, or just burnt out on social activities. Don’t be too tough on them (or yourself) for misbehavior. Just revert back to step #1 for every!
The holidays are meant to be enjoyable. Take some time this season to prioritize what will bring you and your family joy as we close out 2021 and look toward 2022!
The SCCAA Community Actions Pathway HUB is an available resource for pregnant and new mothers in need of support, education, and community services.
