It seems like summers get shorter every year, many schools in our area start back in mid-August. In our household with a Kindergartener we are already preparing for those early school day mornings. Read on to learn more about making the transition as easy as possible, and how everyone can start the day with a happy morning!
Now that August is almost here we have started talking about switching our days back to our school year routine. But what does that look like?
- Begin the slow process of an earlier bedtime. Kids need more sleep than adults, and allowing them to have enough sleep will make for an easier morning wake-up. Start the routine now though!
- Start waking them up a little earlier each day. If you are like us, we have let our little one sleep in. Now is the time we are going to start waking him up a little earlier each day slowly. So we do not have morning fights about waking up.
- Get dressed first thing in the morning. Often in the summer, we sit in our PJs for longer times, which is great, but as we get ready for back to school easing them into getting dressed first thing is important.
- Eat breakfast as soon as everyone is dressed for the day.

Tips for once school starts:
- Pack lunches the night before
- Pick out outfits the night before
- Communicate the morning routine and the plans for the next day so everyone is on the same page the night before.
- Wake up with plenty of time to complete your morning routine with time to spare.
Remember to give yourself grace, every day will not be perfect. There will be disagreements in the mornings, and things will be misplaced, but overall mornings can be managed and happy.
