Canton City Schools considers relaxed academic requirements for student athletes

(Canton, Ohio) – The Canton City school board is planning to meet on October 21st to further review and discuss the proposed policy change.

The change would lower the district’s minimum grade point average for students participating in interscholastic extracurricular activities, including sports. Currently, the district requires players to earn at least a 2.0 on a 4.0 grading scale. This is considered a C average. The proposal would change the minimum GPA to a 1.5.

If approved, the updated minimum GPA requirement would be effective for the net grading period and would apply to all spring athletes.
