Once you select new doorknobs or cabinet pulls, installation often is simple. To mount pulls on doors that never had them before, you will need to create a template to make sure that your drill holes line up in the same spot each time.
Here are four tips when choosing the right hardware for your kitchen.
- Decide what type of cabinet hardware you want – Do you want all nobs, all pulls, or a combination of both? There are not solid “rules,” but generally it’s a lot easier to open cabinets with a knob and drawers with a pull. Knobs have such smaller profiles than handles. They are most often less expensive and can be slightly easier to install. Pulls are larger than knobs and tend to make more of a statement as well as offer an easier grip.
- Select a style – What style suits your space best? Hardware with ridges, curved silhouettes, and textured detailing typically work well with traditional or heritage-inspired designs. While modern cabinetry tends to include clean lines and edges with more of a sleek, minimal profile.
- Choose a finish – Next, it’s all about the finish. Consider the color of your cabinets, your appliances, faucet, and the lighting. Experts suggest that in general, warmer toned spaces with brassy cabinetry have a more vintage feel to them, while cooler tones with darker cabinet hardware lean more contemporary.
- Size – Because drawers and cabinets range in size, it can be difficult to determine what size you need. Again, there is no set rule, but many tend to recommend that the pul length is approximately 1/3 of the cabinet or drawer width.
