Project Ed Bear is looking to the community for help in filling 85 Easter baskets for children staying at or visiting the Akron Children’s and UH Rainbow Babies Oncology Wards during Easter.
“Instead of enjoying Easter at home, our Project Ed Bear kids fighting cancer will spend the day at the hospital,” explained Susan Summerville, co-founder of Project Ed Bear. “We want each of our kids to feel the sheer power of love – and to know we are not only thinking of them but sending them love for a fast and strong recovery.”

Project Ed Bear, a volunteer-led non-profit comforting kids locally with cancer since 1994, has given hundreds of thousands of dollars to Akron Children’s Hospital Oncology Department, as well as provided numerous gifts and experiences like teddy bears to each child receiving a cancer diagnosis, end of treatment parties, and holiday goodies—like these Easter baskets—to each child on the Pediatric Oncology Department at Akron Children’s and UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospitals.
“This Easter, when a child is going through a chemotherapy session, they will be opening cards and goodies,” said Summerville. “Together, we can send them love and positive words of encouragement. Together, we can be their bunny.”
