You did it. You booked the photoshoot. You informed your family. You put the date on the calendar… Now what?
From Bump to Baby is brought to you by The Pregnancy & Parenting Center
Booking a photographer for a family photoshoot isn’t cheap so there’s a lot of pressure to get things right. Who should you hire? What should you wear? Where should you get the photos taken? It can feel intimidating, but it doesn’t have to.
Picking Your Photographer
Before you book a photographer for your family, it’s important to make sure you’re picking the right one. Research the style and editing of local photographers. Find a photographer who fits into your budget and understands your vision. Be clear about your expectations. Let them know who you’d like in the photos- some photographers are uncomfortable with pets or refuse to photographer extended family. Do your research.
What to Wear
When it comes to outfits and accessories, ask yourself these questions:
- Do you have one outfit that is a MUST-wear? Maybe it’s a dress you’re planning to wear or a baby’s outfit that you need to have in the picture. Plan the other outfits around that showstopper.
- Are there any shared colors that compliments the members of your family?
- What season is it? If your session is outdoors, it’s important to factor that in. And be sure to dress for the weather!
- Don’t be afraid of textures and patterns!
- Ask your photographer for suggestions or tips.
Pre-planning and Posing
Before you arrive at your family photoshoot, do a little planning. Check the weather for the day and plan ahead. If you’re bringing pets to the session, ask a friend to tag along and doggy-sit during the pet-free pics. Check out Facebook, Pinterest, and other social websites to find poses and pictures you love. Show these to your photographer and discuss them with your family before the big day. Keep everyone in the loop and plan ahead with back up outfits, rainy day plans, and picture ideas!
