(Canton, Ohio) – This Friday, September 25th, Sandy Valley High School’s football game against the Garaway Pirates will be moved to the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium due to a fire that took place Wednesday afternoon in Sandy Valley Stadium.
A golf cart carrying football equipment caught fire Wednesday inside the Sandy Valley Stadium sending flames 20 feet into the air. The track and football turf, installed earlier this year, was damaged. There were no injuries.
The Sandy Valley Board of Education, Administration, Coaches and players would like to thank the tremendous outpouring of support shown by over a dozen Stark County School Districts offering assistance, the district said in a statement. Officials indicated “that the opportunity to play at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium will allow a greater number of family and loved ones to attend the game; thereby offsetting any associated fee of utilizing the stadium.”
Tickets will not be sold at the gate without a voucher. Vouchers will be required to purchase a ticket for $6.00. A limited number of additional vouchers will be available for family and loved ones and made available Thursday at Sandy Valley High School from 5 – 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the Sandy Valley Stadium ticket booth.
