The Suicide Prevention Coalition is under the umbrella of the Tuscarawas Anti-Drug Coalition (ADC).
This informational campaign comes to you in partnership with the Tuscarawas County Anti-Drug Coalition.
Jodi Salvo, the ADC coordinator, is one of three members of the Suicide Prevention Coalition, the other members are Natalie Bollon, and Veronica Spidell, the executive director and manager of community services of the Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Board of Tuscarawas and Carroll Counties (ADAMHS), respectively. The coalition will be hosting its annual suicide memorial walk on Sunday after missing a year due to the pandemic.
The walk is for supporters and anyone that has lost someone by suicide. The annual suicide memorial walk will take place on Sunday, November 14th at Southside Community Park, 1320 Old Town Valley Road, New Philadelphia. Registration will begin at 3:30PM and the walk at 4:00PM.
In 2020 there were 13 suicides in Tuscarawas County and at the end of September there were nine in 2021. It is believed that the pandemic has impacted suicide attempts and completions. The walk is only one form of support for suicide loss, there is also ongoing support available. If you or someone you know has lost a friend or family member to suicide, the Survivors of Suicide Loss Support Group of Tuscarawas and Carroll Counties is a free resource. The group meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 6:30PM at the ADAMHS Board office, 119 Garland Drive SW, New Philadelphia.
If you or someone you know is contemplating suicide, help is available. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is available 24 hours a day at 800.273.8255.
