Often people think that health and well-being cannot have a holistic component to it when that is not the case. However, it is to note there is an intersection between holistic health and traditional wellness. Read on as we learn more about incorporating holistic wellbeing into your health and wellbeing journey.
What is a solid definition of holistic wellbeing or health:
- approach to life that considers multidimensional aspects of wellness. It encourages individuals to recognize the whole person: physical, mental, emotional, social, intellectual, and spiritual.
Experts share ways a person can focus in on these areas. It can be overwhelming to try to improve or focus on all of them at once. Perhaps zeroing in on one area over several months to make small improvements is a great choice.
Physical health:
- Exercise as much as your body allows. Adults are encouraged to get a minimum of 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week.
- Move your body more even when not exercising. Walk around, stand, and use the stairs instead of the elevator.
Social:
- Find your tribe of people. It doesn’t have to be people you have known your whole life.
- Join a group of interest: book club, ski club, swim team, etc.

Mental:
- Don’t be afraid to try therapy it is good for the soul.
- Ground yourself in nature.
- Take breaks from the news and social media
- Spend time with people that are good for your mental health.
If you are a spiritual person pour yourself into your church or place of worship. You can also find meaning in meditation and mindfulness. Being a spiritual person doesn’t always mean the traditional Christian way. When looking for ways to stretch your intelligence try taking a class at your local community college or JVS for adult learners or online.
