“My name is Alyson. I’m 27-years-old. I was living in a group home for five years.”
Including You is brought to you in partnership with the Tuscarawas County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
Alyson explained that “While living in a group home, my main goal was to learn how to become more independent so I could be on my own. I made my goal – and all thanks to my SSA Kayla McKnight, my mother, and staff to help me move forward in my life. I live on my own, and I really love where I’m at. I love the Mom Meals that get delivered to me. I also have HPC staff from Starlight Enterprises Inc. to help me with my outcomes and teach me how to budget money and make good choices. I’m very blessed and thankful that I have a lot of support in my life.”
SSAs identify and secure appropriate funding mechanisms for the services and supports that people need. SSAs serve as advocates for people with developmental disabilities from early childhood throughout their entire lifespan.
“I’m very proud of Alyson for achieving her goal. Previously, she lived in a group home for five years with 24-hour staffing. She is doing well giving on her own. Every day she reaches out to me asking for ways to grow on her path toward independence,” added Kayla McKnight, SSA.
The SSA service is a free service provided through state funding and local levy dollars for qualifying people. Anyone can apply for eligibility by calling 330-308-7173. You can also learn more by visiting tuscbdd.org.
