(Canton, Ohio) – Today marks a special Election Day across Stark County with Issue 1 up for a vote.
The Stark County Educational Service Center along with 16 participating school districts are asking voters in respective communities to approve a 1.49-mill continuous levy. Officials have explained the money, roughly $225 per student per year, would help fund a variety of improvements and services for participating districts.
The move comes following a rash of threats against schools last school year as well as what has been deemed a ‘suicide contagion’ by the Centers for Disease Control. Stark County saw a number of young people take their own lives during the same time period including a Jackson Middle School student who took a gun into the school building.
