(New Philadelphia, Ohio) – Local Magistrate announces bid for Tuscarawas County Juvenile and Probate Court Judge.
The following statement is directly from Magistrate, Adam Wilgus regarding his bid for the bench.
“I am proud to announce my 2020 candidacy for Judge of the Tuscarawas County Juvenile and Probate Court. I will be seeking the Republican nomination during the March 2020 primary election.
“Since 2016, I have served as a Magistrate in the Tuscarawas County Juvenile and Probate Court under the supervision of Judge Linda A. Kate. In that time, I have presided over thousands of hearings, making decisions in the best interest of Tuscarawas County children and their families. The needs of children and families in our community are great. Many children are not properly nourished and are identified as being “food insecure”. During my time at the Juvenile and Probate Court, I created a juvenile work program, in cooperation with numerous community organizations, that prepares bags of food that are distributed to Tuscarawas County children. Through the work program, Juvenile offenders receive a consequence for their actions while being taught about civic responsibility and giving back to their community. During the 2018-19 school year, the program provided 100,448 meals to Tuscarawas County children identified as “food insecure”.
“In 2018, Judge Kate entrusted me with making decisions governing the multi-county detention system. I also served on the Child Advocacy Center committee to obtain a therapy dog. The therapy dog provides support to children that are victims of abuse and is permitted to accompany the child in court while they testify.
“Many of our youth lack positive role models and drugs have ravaged their families. (click link to Article) I currently serve on the Board of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of East Central Ohio and as a member of the Tuscarawas County Anti-drug Coalition. I’m also a graduate of Leadership Tuscarawas.
“Prior to my legal career, I served seven years in the military and received an honorable discharge at the rank of E-6 Staff Sgt. My experience in the military provided a foundation for leading in times of stress and making difficult decisions.
“I received my bachelor’s degree in Finance from Kent State University and my law degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. I worked in a private law practice with a focus on Juvenile and Probate law before being appointed Magistrate at the Tuscarawas County Juvenile and Probate Court in 2016.
“I am married to Krista Wilgus, a physical therapist for Cleveland Clinic. We have one son, Charlie, age 3.
“There is no greater responsibility than making decisions that directly affect the lives of children and their families. As a Magistrate in the Tuscarawas County Juvenile/Probate Court, I take that role very seriously. Tuscarawas County is comprised of very good people some of whom require intervention and redirection. A Judge has the opportunity to make a difference in their community and change people’s lives. I’m asking for that opportunity and your vote for Judge so that I may continue to protect our children and make a positive impact in their lives.”
