Local Salvation Army Sets Red Kettle Campaign Goal

(New Philadelphia) – The Dover/New Philadelphia Salvation Army is announcing an ambitious goal for the 2018 Red Kettle Campaign.

$125,000, that’s the goal for this year’s campaign, which begins this Friday and will run through December 24th. Last year’s goal was $100,000.

As of now, the Salvation Army will have volunteers working at the Dover and New Philadelphia Buehler’s, two entrances at Walmart and Rural King in New Philadelphia and Mako’s Market in Uhrichsville. Additional locations are expected.

The kettles will have volunteers working from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Also, the Salvation Army has launched a new initiative for this year’s campaign called the $20 Challenge. On December 20th, every 20 bill or $20 check put into a Red Kettle will be matched by the organization’s divisional headquarters up to $10,000.

“The Red Kettle Campaign is the single largest fundraiser that we have in The Salvation Army,” said Lt. Andrew Allen. “Without a successful campaign, we would not be able to provide the various programs and services that we offer to this community, including a 5-day-a-week Soup Kitchen, emergency housing, an emergency food pantry, an After-School Program, and a wealth of free Youth Programs, including music and arts, archery, life skills, and teen discipleship.”

Any business interested in a sponsorship is encouraged to contact Lt. Andrew Allen at 330-364-3811. Volunteers are also always needed for the event.

All of the money collected through the Red Kettle Campaign stays in Tuscarawas County and is used to fund activities for youth and the soup kitchen at the citadel at 809 Emmet Avenue NW, New Philadelphia. The kitchen is open Monday through Friday every week. Money collected will also go towards new programs such as a Learning Zone after-school program open to kids in kindergarten through fifth grade Monday through Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
