Local school board member resigns

(Jackson Township, Ohio) – The Jackson Local Board of Education has accepted the resignation of a board member effective May 26th.

Katrina Barton wrote a letter to board president, Thomas Winkhart noting she was resigning due to an employment opportunity that would call for her and her family to relocate out of the state. Barton was elected to the board for the first time back in 2014 and then re-elected in 2018.

The school board has between 15 and 30 days to find a replacement to fill the vacant seat. The board member appointed will serve in the role until December 31st, 2021, and would have to run for election to remain in the seat at that time.

The district plans to promote the open position via the local newspaper. Applications are due by 4:00 p.m. on June 10th, 2020 followed by a special board meeting at 3:00 p.m. on June 16th at the district’s central office where interviews will take place. The board will vote to accept a new member from the applicants during their regular meeting on June 23rd.

Applicants must be 18 years or older, Jackson Local School District residents and registered voters. Applications can be accessed via the district’s website.
