(New Philadelphia, Ohio) – Buckeye Career Center is seeking assistance from local businesses and residents to help defray the cost of a new drug-free initiative beginning during the 2018-2019 school year.

The district has been approved to begin a chapter of the Drug-Free Clubs of America, a program that was founded in Cincinnati in 2005. Officials explain that the goal of the program is to promote healthy living and a drug-free lifestyle for teenagers.

Buckeye Career Center officials add that they hope the initiative will be helpful to employers who are seeking drug-free potential employees. Students who apply to be involved in the chapter will be drug tested and given an ID card to keep in his or her possession.

The students will then be randomly tested throughout the year in order to keep an active membership. Members can use the card to take advantage of incentives at local businesses and will also receive rewards such as preferential parking in the BCC student parking lot, BCC apparel, ice cream parties, and more. Buckeye Career Center is seeking financial support and incentive donations to help pay for the testing and rewards, to lower the cost to BCC students.

Participation options include a tax-deductible contribution, participation in the drug-free club discount card, coupons or vouchers, and/or give away items. Members must show their Drug-Free Clubs of America ID card to take advantage of the offers. Any individual or business who supports the chapter will be recognized on a banner that will be placed inside BCC and will receive a window supporter sign.
