Every year, the Zoar Store closes down for the cold winter months starting the end of December. However, it’s a new year and once again, it’s time to re-open Tuscarawas County’s 190-year-old structure for treasure-hunting shoppers to enjoy!
About the Zoar Store
The Zoar Store originally served as the early Zoar society business headquarters. Then, it became a post office… and finally, a store! Inside, you’ll find a deep basement and an addition that once was a dairy. Milk was once churned into butter to be used in hotels and homes.
This structure was restored by the Ohio Historical Society and operates daily as a store for the public, open during its season from March-December annually. Visiting the Zoar Store, you’ll find all sorts of unique items such as pottery, books, old-fashioned toys, jams, and more!

The Speaker Series Returns
On re-opening day at 11:00am, you can also pop over to the historic Zoar School House for the Speaker Series, featuring speaker Dr. Elwin Robinson. Dr. Robinson will be talking about the importance of the architecture in four utopian settlements in Northeast Ohio, Zoar being one of them.
“The Zoar Community Association is excited to kick off the 2022 Speaker Series with someone as qualified as Dr. Elwin Robinson as our first speaker,” explained Tammi Shrum, Historic Sites Director. “The architecture of Zoar is not often discussed, so it will be refreshing to hear the story told by the buildings themselves.” (Credit: Zoar Store Press Release)
The Speaker Series is free and open to the public! For info about this event, call (330) 874-3011.
