Putting shelves over doorways is an easy DIY project that brings you the best of both worlds.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Wood – size depends on your door
- Brackets
- Stain
- Paint
- Screws
- Drill
The first thing you need to do is measure the width of your door. This will let you know what size wood you need to get. While you’re up there, see how far you’d want your shelf sticking out too!
After you know the size you need, you can get wood and the other supplies at any home improvement store.
When you get your supplies home, you need to paint or stain the wood and brackets. If you’d like it to match your doorway, just pick the same color. Neutral colors would also look great in any house!
Now it’s time to put the shelf up.
Screw the brackets on each side of the doorway. This will provide your shelf the support it needs. Depending on the type of brackets you purchased will depend on where you need to put your screws.
Once they are in, just set the wood piece on top of the brackets. Your shelf will be ready to show off all of your art and knickknacks.
