(Ohio) – Ohio legislative leaders are continuing to debate the role of the federal government when it comes to reopening schools.
According to recent reports, congress is continuing to discuss how much money to allocate to support schools and reopening plans for the 2020-2021 school year. Lawmakers seem to be in agreement that schools should try and reopen so long as they can do so safely.
Additionally, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other health sources, it is still unknown how students may spread coronavirus when in school settings.
Current financial support proposals range from $100 billion to over $400 billion being allocated to help districts throughout Ohio. Senator Sherrod Brown has stated publicly that he believes Washington has a responsibility to play a role. No final decisions on this issue have been made as of Friday, July 24th.
Congress is also in the beginning stages of putting together another coronavirus relief package for residents.
