Bills Assistance

PRC Program Now Providing Rent & Utilities Assistance!

(Tuscarawas County, OH) – Effective July 1, 2023, folks can apply for assistance with rent and utilities through our PRC Program. Tuscarawas County Job and Family Services has extended the Prevention Retention and Contingency program to include assistance for utilities and rent bills. Rent assistance includes monthly rent/mortgage expenses.  No court-ordered eviction is necessary.  This service does not include expenses for the deposit on a new residence and the household must have an income to sustain ongoing costs.

Utility assistance will include expenses for gas, electricity, water/sewer, or any other heating source.  It does not include payment of any expenses outside of the current residence and must be for use at the current residence.  Past bills for the new connection service will not be covered.  A disconnect notice is not required for this service.  If the request is for heating or cooling sources, a HEAP denial or other notice that services have been exhausted is required.  Again, households must have an income to sustain ongoing costs.

There are verifications required to be submitted with the application in order to determine applicants’ eligibility. These include:

  • 30 days of current income for EVERYONE in the home – this includes Social Security, child support, etc.
  • Verification of all checking and/or savings accounts.
  • Landlord/mortgage contact information and copy of lease agreement
  • Current utility bills that they are requesting assistance for

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services manages vital programs that strengthen Ohio families. These include job training and employment services, unemployment insurance, cash and food assistance child care, child and adult protective services, adoption, and child support services
