Prison Time for Driver in Hit/Skip Involving Canton Child

(Canton, Ohio) The driver responsible for hitting an 8-year-old girl with his minivan and fleeing the scene is heading to prison.

The accident on June 14th left the child with multiple injuries including broken legs, a concussion, a fractured cheek and a slight bleeding on her brain. This week, 24-year-old Ronald Dickens pleaded guilty to failure to stop after an accident, a fourth-degree felony, as part of a plea agreement with Stark County Prosecutors.

The Judge sentenced Dickens to the maximum sentence of 18 months in prison but noted in court that she will consider releasing him after 30 days as long as he complies with prison rules. His driver’s license was also suspended for three years.

The child is expected to make a full recovery.
