Proposed Legislation Would Expand Computer Science Education Options

A bill that would expand computer science as an option for Ohio schoolchildren is on it’s way to the governor’s desk.

Per the current legislation, the Ohio Department of Education would be required to adopt standards and curriculum for computer science in grades K-12.

The bill also outlines permission for students to substitute advanced computer science for Algebra II as a course required for graduation.

The bill does allow the decision of whether or not to offer computer science classes in the hands of individual districts.
