Reignite Your Passion: Tips for Balancing Motherhood and Personal Goals

As the end of the year quickly approaches many of us start to look at our personal goals, what we have accomplished, and what we want to do in the next year. It can be difficult as mothers to take time for ourselves for self-reflection. Read on to learn more about how we can balance motherhood and setting our own goals.

Whether it is one hour a day or one hour a week we must take time for ourselves as mothers. To meet any type of personal goal is equivalent to self-care. The saying is true that you can not pour from an empty cup.

What is self-care?
  • Taking care of yourself so that you can be healthy, well physically and mentally, and taking care of others well.

Everyone’s personal goals and the time they have available in a day, week, or month will look different. Here are a few things to consider:

  • Never compare your goals to those of other mothers
  • Find what you are passionate about and go with it. Don’t be afraid to try something new!
  • Look for a tribe of other women who will build up and encourage you to set personal goals, maybe even join in with you.
While goals vary from person to person. Here are a few suggestions:
  • Wake up 30 minutes earlier than your kids to get in the self-care you need.
  • Set a regular “tech free” time, even if it is one a week for 30 minutes.
  • Find an exercise or stretching routine that works for you. Not all of us are runners, but maybe tennis or water aerobics has peaked your interest.

All the while remembering your personal goals can change just as life changes with us. It is okay to adapt to it. Also, it takes time to form the habits that are needed for goals to take shape. Don’t be discouraged, and keep trying until you find what works for you!
