School Board Makes Administrative Staff Changes

The New Philadelphia, Ohio the school board of education is making steps to rework the district’s administration.

Reports indicate the New Philadelphia City School Board meeting on Monday, May 21st, was attended by a large crowd interested in proposed changes to the administrative staff.

A majority vote approved several personnel recommendations made by the administration including the nonrenewal of Jaclyn Smolinski’s administrative contract and the elimination of her most recent position as Assistant Special Services Director effective August 1st, 2018. The board also accepted the resignation of Welty Middle School Principal Carl McCrory.

Board Member Denver Gallentine was the only board member to vote against the proposals.

Superintendent David Brand has since noted that McCrory will be offered a teaching position because he currently has tenure. Smolinski will not be entitled to a teaching position as she has not received tenure.

Newsymom.com has contacted McCrory and Brand in reference to this information.

Discussion leading up to the vote on both matters took place in executive session and therefore the board is under no obligation to share the details with the public.
