May is High Blood Pressure Education Month—and before you scroll away thinking, “I’m too busy chasing toddlers to worry about blood pressure”—this one’s actually for you. Because between the snacks, the laundry mountains, and the 42 questions you answered before 9 a.m., your heart might be working overtime.
High blood pressure (aka hypertension) is often called the “silent killer” because it usually has no symptoms. But left unchecked, it can lead to serious issues like heart disease and stroke. The good news? There are simple, realistic ways to keep your numbers in check—even in the chaos of parenting.

These simple tips for keeping your blood pressure under control are brought to you in
partnership with the Tuscarawas County Health Department.
Here are a few completely reasonable things that can help you manage your blood pressure (without needing an hour of silence or a yoga retreat):
1.Know your numbers.
Get your blood pressure checked regularly. It’s quick, painless, and way easier than getting a toddler into a car seat.
2.Move your body.
Even a walk around the block with a stroller counts. Bonus if it tires the kids out.
3.Watch the salt.
We’re not saying give up your favorite snacks—but maybe check labels here and there. It’s all about balance.
4.Manage stress.
Easier said than done, right? Try deep breaths, a 10-minute dance party, touching some grass or even locking yourself in the bathroom for some “me time” (no judgment).
5.Sleep.
As parents sometimes there’s not much we can do about this one. But prioritizing even a little more rest when you can really helps your heart get a rest.

Your heart works hard for your family—take a moment this month to give it a little love back.
