The Women’s Fund of Stark Community Foundation awards $17,000 in grants to multiple nonprofit organizations to aid underserved women and children.
(Canton, Ohio) This year’s grant recipients and their award amounts include:
Hannah’s House will receive $5,000. The money will be used to support Your Story Matters. It is an event designed to enhance the mental, spiritual and physical needs of vulnerable women.
The Canton Museum of Art is also tapped to receive a $5,000 grant to help fund 15 art therapy sessions in partnership with the YWCA. The program looks to offer relief in emotional conflicts, develop social skills, manage addictions and more.
$4,400 will be given to Heartbeats to the City. The money will be used to fund sewing supplies and a sewing instructor to teach women fashion job and skill training in hands-on sewing lessons. The program also offers courses on careers in the fashion design industry, steps to start a sewing business and a tour of Kent State University’s School of Fashion.
The Stark County Hunger Task Force will receive $1,700 to purchase an electric skillet, a crockpot, and a blender for every family in the Healthy Lifestyles program.
$850 will go to Project REBUILD. The grant dollars will aid the program’s efforts to collaborate with community organizations to provide a 10-week program for women to receive education about decision making, nutrition, goal setting, physical activity, stress and coping, substance use, violence and positive thinking.
With 12 signature members, The Women’s Fund was established in 2006 to support women and children in Stark County. Today, more than 200 women have stepped forward to financially support the fund.
The Women’s Fund is a permanent endowment fund of Stark Community Foundation. According to the organization’s website, it was created to benefit future generations; increase vital funding for programs that advance economic, educational, physical, emotional, social artistic and personal growth of women; and educate and inspire women to become leaders in philanthropy. The interest area of this fund includes nonprofit agencies and their programs or projects that meet the needs of women and children in Stark County.
