(Magnolia, Ohio) – The Sandy Valley Local School District is announcing two learning formats for students for the upcoming school year.

Officials announced the options this week.

1.) Returning to school in a traditional, face-to-face, format, with appropriate safety measures in place, five days a week.

2.) An online learning option for students who are not able to or choose not to return to a traditional format at this time.

Officials indicated that the district is committed to decreasing the likelihood of infection and keep the community safety through additional hygiene, cleaning, and safety procedures. They also noted that being in a school environment is a public place and a certain level of risk cannot be eliminated. Additionally, officials noted that in cooperation with the County Health Departments, officials can elect at any time to return to online learning if case within the school (or county) begin to escalate to a severe risk level.

The district is requesting that parents complete and return the intent form by Monday, August 3rd, 2020.

Officials added that juniors and seniors who are enrolled in a South Stark Career Academy Technical Education (CTE) program in the 2020-2021 school year are REQUIRED to attend the CTE program and any related academic courses in person at the school where the program is used. “The knowledge, skills, and hands-on learning experience in our CTE programs are not able to be adequately substituted by virtual options,” officials stated. “If your family would have selected full-time virtual learning without this requirement, you may be able to take other core classes using your home district’s remote learning plan. Any mid-day transportation is not part of the traditional busing plan and will be the responsibility of the family.”
