Stay Safe – Medical Marijuana 101

Keeping prescription medication away from kids and other family members is an important safety rule for every household- this includes medical marijuana.

Thisย informational campaignย comes to you in partnership with theย Tuscarawas County Anti-Drug Coalition.

There are over 2,900 cases of accidental marijuana consumption by kids under the age of 6. Almost a third of those cases were children under 3, and 50% required hospital care. Keeping your medication put away, using its original container, and refusing to share can help protect your children.

Additionally, follow these rules when handling and using medical marijuana:

  1. Keep it out of reach and put it away. Out of sight and locked away are the best options, as kids are naturally curious.
  2. Follow your doctorโ€™s orders. Take your medication when directed and only take the prescribed dose. Know the side effects and avoid using expired products.
  3. Understand the medication. Know the percentage of THC and CBD in the products you are using. Donโ€™t be afraid to ask questions and read the labels.
  4. Talk to your family. Be open and honest about the medication you are taking.
  5. Do not make exceptions. Do not leave medical marijuana out and available for your kids or pets. Put it away every time and never share or sell your medication.
