Summer Daze Summer Sun

With the brightest days of the year here in full swing, taking care of your skin has never been more important. Many of us do not know that skin is our body’s largest organ, and it needs to be taken care of. Read on to learn more about how to prevent sunburn, skin spots, and skin cancer.

Did you know the CDC reports over 5 million Americans a year are treated for skin cancer? It is also reported that skin cancer is one of the most easily treated cancers if caught early.

How can we reduce UV sun exposure?
  • Limit our sun-time
  • Wear sun-protective lightweight clothing
  • Wide-brimmed hats offer greater protection from the sun
  • Wear sunglasses that have a UV400 rating or “100% UV Protection” on the label
  • Pro tip: Just because glasses are tinted doesn’t mean they provide UV protection!

Take advantage of sunblock or sunscreen on areas not covered by clothing.
  • Use at least SPF 50
  • Reapply every 2 hours no matter, as no sunscreen is completely waterproof.
  • It doesn’t matter if you use lotion, cream, stick, spray, butter, or gel.
  • Babies under 6 months old should not wear sunscreen, check the bottle before applying.
Common places we forget to apply sunscreen.
  • Tops of fee
  • Lips
  • Ears
  • Back of neck
  • Scalp

If you have any concerns with any dark spots that are raised on your skin seek medical advice as soon as you can.
