Summer Reading List: The Best Books for Moms in 2024

Everyone loves to read don’t they, as moms that is not always an instant reaction. Who has time to read, or maybe another, my kids don’t enjoy it so what is the point? Those may be some other thoughts going through your head. I want you to know that it is normal to have them. Sometimes jumping into reading can be overwhelming. If you are thinking you may be interested, read on to get more tips of how to dive in for the first time for you and your children.

Where can I start?
  • Find your favorite types of books.
    • Thriller
    • Nonfiction (self-help, biographies, autobiographies, historical books)
    • Romance
    • Cozy Mystery
    • Historical fiction
  • Have you ever thought about listening to audiobooks? Yes, they count as reading! Listening to audiobooks is a great way to get in a groove. You can listen while you shop, fold clothes, sweep floors, etc.
  • Dedicate time to read. Perhaps you enjoy reading in the morning or right before bed.
  • Remember this may be a new adventure for you or getting back in after a long hiatus, so don’t compare yourself to family or friends.
  • Get recommendations from friends and family.
  • Sign up for a book club dedicated to other mothers.

What about reading to your children?
  • Carve out a schedule to read with them. Add it to the bedtime routine.
  • Short books, no matter the age are fine.
  • If they get bored or are ready to stop, don’t push them to keep reading.
  • As they get older encourage them to do the reading while you sit with them and help.
What about recommendations?
  • Hello Beautiful by Napolitano
  • On Our Best Behavior: The Seven Deadly Sins and the Price Women Pay to be Good by Elise Loehnen
  • The Hazelbourne Ladies Motorcycle and Flying Club by Helen Simonson
  • Untamed by Glennon Doyle

Remember aside from audiobooks, paperback, and e-readers are options to kick-start the journey.
