(New Philadelphia, Ohio) – Tuscarawas County Family and Children First is announcing statistics on graduating local seniors.
The statistics below were provided by the Transition Age Youth/Shared Planning Workgroup following surveys collected for the past two school years.
- The number of students who reported participating in Job Shadowing opportunities in high school increased to 44.1% in 2018 compared to 24.7% in 2017
- The number of students who reported taking some type of career education class in high school increased to 46.8% in 2018 compared to 37.4% in 2017
- The number of students who reported visiting any work sites during high school as part of a group/class increased slightly in 2018 to 40.0% compared to 33.9% in 2017
- The number of students who reported that they chose a career because of a personal experience increased in 2018 to 81.8% compared to 73.6% in 2017
- The number of students who reported participating in any type of first-hand career experience while in high school increased slightly in 2018 to 60.5% compared to 54.0% in 2017
- In 2018, 62.3% of the students felt they have completed high school coursework that will lead them to their career path. This remained consistent with the 62.6% response in 2017
- In both 2017 and 2018, students indicated that Mothers and Personal Experience both had the biggest influence in their career choices
- In both 2017 and 2018, about 75% of the students indicate they know very specifically what their career path will be
- In both 2017 and 2018, about 66% of the students indicate they have a post-secondary education or additional training plan in place for after high school
