You’re a full-time mama, but you might be a full time or part time employee, too. The juggling act is tricky when there are too many things demanding your time, attention, and energy!
From Bump to Baby is brought to you by The Pregnancy & Parenting Center
I am a mom and I am a fulltime employee– trust me when I say I am in the trenches with you. These are tips and tricks that I use to keep my brain from boiling over and my sanity in check. You won’t always be able to keep your cool and achieve everything you set out to do, but these five tips are helpful nonetheless.
You can do anything, but you can’t do everything.
- To Do lists are your friends. If you don’t already keep a to-do list at home AND at work, this is your sign to start. Having a list helps your brain keep track of less and gives you the gratification of checking off tasks and seeing a visual reminder of your progress.
- Make expectations clear with your spouse, family, or childcare provider. If you parent with a partner, make sure the workload is balanced. Things don’t have to be equal, but making your expectations of them clear helps to reduce tension and stress with your spouse, family, or caregiver.
- Utilize “help” if it’s available. Start a crockpot with dinner before you leave for work so it’s all done when you get home. Hire a cleaning service to take care of weekly messes around the house.
- When you’re at work, BE at work. If your children are with a safe and responsible caregiver, put your phone on vibrate, focus on your job, and knock out as much as you can at your job. (Don’t turn your phone off- especially if being unavailable would make your feel stressed and distracted.)
- Schedule in time for you. It’s really hard to find time for yourself- whether that’s a workout, reading a book, taking a nap, or meeting up with friends– but that’s why it’s so important. You are more than an employee and a mother- invest in that other version of you, too.
