Tobacco Take-Back Event-Tuscarawas

Tobacco take-back! Local organizations coming together to give smokers an extra incentive to take the first step to stop smoking or vaping.

DOVER—All smokers who are willing to make a commitment to quit and who drop off a pack of new or opened cigarettes or a vape or electronic nicotine device, will be entered into a drawing to win:

  • One of fifty ten-dollar gas cards.

Location: Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital’s South Entrance

Time: Held between 10 am and Noon this Saturday, April 30th

The drawing is made possible thanks to the Tuscarawas County Health Department (TCHD) Tobacco Use Prevention & Cessation grant program, which is working in partnership with Leadership Tuscarawas, Empower Tusc, and Wendy’s.  The gift card drawing will take place at the conclusion of the event, and winners will be notified by phone.

“Making a commitment to quit smoking or vaping is challenging. We are thankful to work with community partners to provide this little incentive to help people take that important first step to quit by calling 1-800-QUIT-NOW for free help.” -Autumn Poland, TCHD Health Educator and Grant Coordinator for the Tobacco Use Prevention & Cessation Program.

Poland explained that:

  • Currently, 16 million Americans are living with a disease caused by smoking, and studies show that those who quit begin to experience health benefits within the first 24 hours. We hope this event helps people start on that journey to better health.”

With leadership from Poland of TCHD, Jodi Salvo of Empower Tusc, and Chris Lane of Wendy’s, a Leadership Tuscarawas project team of Denise McEnroe-Petitte of Kent State Tuscarawas, Brenda Pope of Eagle Machinery, Steve Rippeth of Buckeye Career Center, and Niza Rodriguez of Redwood House of Real Estate, planned this Tobacco Take-Back event to take place in conjunction with Prescription Take-Back Day. The gas gift cards were donated by Eagle Machinery & Supply, Inc, and Redwood House of Real Estate.
