(Zoar, Ohio) – Historic Zoar Village and Fort Laurens are offering tours and other programing beginning in July.
The Ghosts of Zoar return early for the 2020 season with Ghost Tours being offered in July 10, 11, 17, and 18 at 7pm. Tour Historic Zoar Village by lantern light as you hear the haunted tales of Zoar. Usually reserved for the Halloween season. the ghost tours of Zoar are coming back early this season. Join your guide on a haunted adventure of Zoar hearing ghost stories of the past and the creepy experiences of the tour guides themselves. Tickets are presale only and tours are limited to 10 people. History Camp returns on July 15-17. This year History Camp will be held virtually. Each day will transport students to another time in history. Virtual content will be provided live to participate together. Virtual content will include costumed interpreters, tours, and instructions on activities. If you can’t participate live, a link will be provided to have your hands-on history fun later. All supplies, worksheets, snacks, and activities will be provided to each student in a convenient to-go box organized by day. Boxes can be picked up in Zoar or arrangements can be made on an as-needed basis. Students can then unbox their historical fun early or for each day of camp. July 15 will be Zoar History day, looking at life in the 1830s. July 16 will be Zoar in the Civil War exploring the history of the Civil War and its role in Zoar. July 17 takes students back to the American Revolution with Fort Laurens Day. Virtual activities will take place live from 1pm-4pm. The cost is $10 per day or $25 for all three days. Ready, Aim, Fire! Travel back in time and spend a weekend at Fort Laurens during Revolution on the Tuscarawas: Revolutionary War Tour. On Saturday, July 18, and Sunday, July 19, visit various historical stations and demonstrations set in the Revolutionary War Era. Demonstrations will include: Women’s Life in Military Camps; Rifle and Musket; Music; Artillery; Cooking; Medicine; 18th Century Camp Tools; 18th Century Games; Congressional Soldiers in the Revolution; British Soldiers in the Revolution; German-speaking soldiers in the Revolution; and 18th Century Clothing.
Social distancing will be applied between guests and between guests and reenactors. We ask that you please pre-purchase your tickets to limit crowd size. Rev War tour times are limited to 10 people and will leave every 15 minutes. Tours of the Fort Laurens Museum and grounds will run both days.
Admission for the event is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 & under. All proceeds go toward the preservation and educational efforts of Fort Laurens. Blacksmithing classes will also resume beginning in July. Classes start at the beginning level and go through two advanced classes before culminating in a Blades class. Classes are limited to 2 students and start at $150. Classes include instruction, boxed lunches, and a hand created object to take home.
