Continuing last week’s topic, we’re shining a light on maternal health and what you need to do to stay well for yourself and your loved ones.
This informational campaign comes to you in partnership with the Stark County Community Action Agency.
Taking your prenatal vitamins, snapping pictures of your growing bump, and snuggling your new baby are all important parts of pregnancy and motherhood. Keeping an eye on your health and monitoring how you feel are also crucial tasks.
More Maternal Warning Signs
- Extreme nausea
Queasiness is normal during pregnancy, but not being able to keep water in your stomach, lightheadedness, dry mouth, and confusion are all signs of trouble. - Severe belly pain
Get sharp, stabbing, and cramping pains checked out immediately. - Baby’s movement slows or stops during pregnancy
- Vaginal bleeding/fluid leaking during pregnancy
- Vaginal bleeding or discharge after pregnancy
Foul-smelling discharge or blood clots larger than an egg require a doctor’s visit. - Extreme swelling in your arm or leg
If during or up to 6 weeks after birth you experience this swelling, see a medical professional. - Extreme tiredness
Pregnancy and motherhood are extremely tiring, but if you are unable to get up, especially weak or tired, feeling sad or depressed, or unable to stay awake no matter how much sleep you get, there is an underlying problem.
Mama- you will be the most important person in your baby’s world. You already are! Taking care of yourself, listening to your body, and treating any issues is another way to provide for your little one. Talk to your obstetrician or doctor immediately if you experience any of these symptoms. The SCCAA Community Actions Pathway HUB is an available resource for pregnant and new mothers in need of support, education, and community services.
