What Can the Last Two Months Hold?

Many people want to start their new healthy habits after the holidays have ended, and the new year begins on January 1st. But what if everyone decided to be intentional about taking care of their physical health throughout the holidays? Read on to learn more about ways to improve one’s physical health, sustain it during the holidays, and allow time for rest during the busiest season of the year.

Getting active can seem scary to a person who has not done much physical activity in their life. Read through some of the suggestions, and see if any fit well.

  • Set specific goals, even if it’s once a week to be active
  • Park the car further away from the store in the parking lot
  • Stand more when watching T.V. or working
  • Try walking meeting and take stretch breaks
What is a healthy weight?
  • Know everyone’s body type and size is different
  • Track progress on a fitness app on a phone or smart device
  • Be realistic on weight loss and make small, slow goals

No one wants to skip on the sweets or fatty foods that come with the traditional holiday meals, but there is one word that can help…

Moderation: everything in moderation. Enjoy that piece of pie, but only have one slice instead of two.

Build healthy habits now:
  • Plan meals
  • Recognize what triggers unhealthy eating
  • Ask for support and help from friends and family
  • Imagine the future

Always remember to be patient, especially during this busy time. Know that this is a marathon, not a sprint, and this will take time, but think how much stronger you can be if you stay strong during the holidays. Also, enjoy the gratitude that comes with the season, try to keep a running list, and perhaps write a journal.
