(New Philadelphia, Ohio) – United Way of Tuscarawas County is now accepting Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program participants.
United Way of Tuscarawas County is partnering with United Way of Greater Stark County and the DoverPhila Federal Credit Union to bring the program to the community. “We are grateful for the partnership with DoverPhila Federal Credit Union in Dover, for providing the space and equipment, needed for the VITA program,” explained Robin Waltz, United Way of Tuscarawas County President.
VITA assists individuals and families who have an income of $60,000 ($90,000 joint) or less by filing their taxes for free. Clients filing with direct deposit can typically expect a refund in 7-10 days.
The IRS-certified VITA volunteers work with clients to identify tax credits that are often overlooked while helping people avoid the high cost of paid preparers and predatory lenders with filing fees typically costing around $270 each.
“We are proud to continue to offer this valuable service to Tuscarawas County,” stated Jack Dooling, VITA Site Coordinator. “VITA helps taxpayers in our community save a substantial amount of money, bringing more money back into local businesses and stimulating the economy.”
Due to mandatory pandemic restrictions, VITA regulations will follow public health orders and restrict tax interactions to drop-off services only this year. In-person appointments will not be available. Drop-off appointments can be scheduled by visiting www.tuscunitedway.org or by calling 330-994-VITA (8482).
