Adolescent Mental Health and Suicide Awareness

An event is planned this month in Tuscarawas County that will offer an opportunity for the community to learn, ask questions and find resources related to mental health and suicide awareness in teenagers.

The event will feature Dr. Margaret D. Storey, lead mental and school counselor at Perry Local Schools in Perry Township, Ohio. The Perry Local School district has been the focus of attention following a significant number of suicides among current or past students during this school year.

Dr. Storey will share what she has seen and learned from her experiences with the district during this tragic time.

Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Deputy Adam Fisher will also speak on social media usage.

A representative from the Tuscarawas County Board of Alcohol and Drug Addiction and Mental Health will also share information about services available in the area.

Following the presentations, a panel discussion will be held to allow attendees to ask questions and address concerns. The panel will include the above speakers as well as Jon Coventry of Community Mental Health and Jodi Salvo with Personal and Family Counseling Services and the Tuscarawas County Anti-Drug Coalition.

The entire community is encouraged to attend the event on February 26th at 7:00 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center at Kent State University at Tuscarawas.
