Christmas in Zoar

The joys of the holiday season will be on display at Christmas in Zoar, scheduled for Saturday, December 1 from 10 a.m.to 6 pm and Sunday, December 2 from noon to 5 pm.

This year’s two-day event will bring together Early American and German holiday traditions, with a winter wonderland train display, a variety of live music and food, horse-drawn wagon rides, and visits with Santa as well as the German Kristkind and Belsnickel.

Unique and handmade gifts and décor will be available from juried folk and craft artisans in the Schoolhouse and in the outdoor Christmas market. Visitors to the event can also tour private homes decorated for the holidays, as well as the village’s museums, which will feature costumed interpreters giving the history of the town and its buildings.

ChristmastNew this year will be Hot Cocoa Land, sponsored by the Zoar Community Association, featuring homemade real-milk cocoa garnished with peppermint sticks and marshmallows, served from the village’s historic Magazine.

Some of the specific events throughout the village include:

  • Designer’s Showcase— A special display of furnishings and holiday décor created by Pine Cone Gift Shoppe in the Bimeler House both days.
  • “Creating the Christmas Carol”—a free Speaker Series event at the Meeting House (Zoar United Church of Christ) featuring reenactor Chris Hart in a first-person presentation of the inspiration behind the characters in Dickens’ yuletide classic, Saturday at 1 pm.
  • Candlelight church service in the Meeting House at 5:15 followed by a tree-lighting ceremony in the Zoar Garden Saturday.
  • Music by the Trombone Alliance, North Canton Hoover Hi Los and Hi Notes, Tusky Valley High School Choir, Delphian Chorale, Camarada Brass Quintet, the Canal Diggers and more.
