Deputy Takes Child to School While Mom Receives Medical Care

A Stark County Sheriff’s Deputy is getting credit for going above and beyond the call of duty to help a child.

IMG_5866Deputy Ali Muntean was contacted on Wednesday, September 27th, and notified that 12-year-old Devonte did not have a ride to school as his mother was receiving medical care.

Deputy Muntean, who is a School Resource Officer at Plain Local Schools, not only drove to pick him up and take him to school, but also bought him breakfast.

We sat and ate our breakfast together and on his way to class he went with a big smile on his face,” said Deputy Muntean. “I enjoyed his company and assured him he could always reach out for a ride or breakfast anytime.”

Deputy Muntean, who also drove the young man to school on Thursday, added that a special trip was in order after he’d commented on her Starbucks cup the first day they were together.

“When I picked up him [Wednesday] morning he saw my Starbucks cup and he told me if I ever got to drive him again that he wanted to go to Starbucks because he had never been. So we [made] a stop there”

When asked why she felt compelled to go a step further for the child she explained,
It never hurts to go beyond expectations to help someone in need.”
