Don’t Wait- Hydrate! Tips for staying hydrated this summer.

Between summer sports, trips to the playground, family vacations, and long days spent outside, it’s easy to forget one of the most important parts of staying healthy: drinking enough water.

Water makes up about 60% of our body and helps regulate body temperature, cushion joints, aid digestion, and keep our bodies functioning properly. When temperatures rise, so does our need for hydration.

These quick tips for keeping your family hydrated this summer are brought to you in partnership with the Tuscarawas County Health Department.

Kids can become dehydrated more quickly than adults, especially when they’re so busy playing that they don’t realize they’re thirsty. That’s why it’s important to encourage water breaks frequently throughout the day—not just when someone says they’re thirsty.

Here are a few easy ways to help your family stay hydrated:

  • Keep fun reusable water bottles within reach.
  • Offer water with meals and snacks.
  • Offer water-rich fruits and vegetables like watermelon, cucumbers, strawberries, and oranges.
  • Take regular water breaks during outdoor play, sports, and other activities.
  • Make hydration fun by setting family water goals, using fun straw cups or adding fresh fruit to your water for natural flavor.

A little planning can go a long way in helping your family feel their best all summer long. Staying hydrated means more energy, better focus, and more time to enjoy all your favorite warm-weather activities.
