Nothing says summer quite like watching fireworks light up the night sky! When it comes to celebrating the Fourth of July with a boom, a little planning can help keep the fun safe for the whole family.

While fireworks are beautiful, they can be dangerous and pose some safety concerns. Every year, thousands of people are treated for firework-related injuries, with burns to the hands, face, and eyes being the most common. Children are especially at risk as they may not be aware of the potential dangers.
Here are a few tips for enjoying fireworks safely…
Leave them to the professionals.
Attending a public fireworks display allows your family to enjoy the show without the risks that come with lighting fireworks at home.
Swap the sparklers for glowsticks
Especially if you’re celebrating with young children, consider giving thema glowstick instead of a sparkler.
Many people don’t realize that sparklers can burn at temperatures of more than 1,200°F—hot enough to cause serious burns in just seconds.
No matter how you celebrate, remember to:
- Keep children a safe distance from fireworks.
- Never allow children to light or handle fireworks.
- Watch fireworks from a safe location.
- Keep a bucket of water or hose nearby if fireworks are being used.

Summer celebrations should be filled with happy memories, not trips to the emergency room. By making safety a priority, you can help ensure everyone enjoys a fun and injury-free holiday!
