Drum circle to be held at Dover Public Library

(Dover, Ohio) – The Community Room of the Dover Public Library will be filled with the rhythmic sounds of drumming on Wednesday, April 1 at 6:30 PM.

Drumming has had a place in every ancient culture and is still an important part of life in many places around the world.  It is used in sacred rituals such as the whirling dervishes as well as for celebrations of harvest and marriage.  Tribes use drums in order to communicate with each other while armies march in step to the rhythm of drums.

In more recent times, many communities have begun to host drum circles in which people come together in a family-friendly environment to share their rhythmic talents. Drumming is the act of celebrating community life.  It allows people to “get in tune” with each other and with themselves. Modern drum circles can provide recreation, wellness, meditation, and employee team-building.

The drumming session at the Dover Library will be led by enthusiast Anne Covy.  Participants can bring their own drum or percussion instrument, but there will also be some instruments available for those who do not have one.  Just as you don’t have to own a drum in order to participate, you do not have to be an experienced drummer to join in the fun.  The Drum Circle welcomes people of all ages, abilities, and walks of life.

The Drum Circle will begin at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, April 1 in the community room at the Dover Public Library, located at 525 N. Walnut Street.  Please call the Library at 330-343-6123 to register for the program.
