Feature: Kerry Metzger, Chairman Tuscarawas County’s Anti-Drug Coalition
We are here to introduce to you Kerry Metzger, the Chairman of The Tuscarawas County Anti-Drug Coalition. As a major player in the Coalition since the creation of the coalition in 2012, but has held his current role as Chairman since 2019. He has raised his family with his wife Karen and two sons in Tuscarawas County where he has created a community he has served.
Lets start at the beginning of the success of Kerry Metzger, he graduated from Somerset High School in Somerset, PA then continued his schooling at Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA where he received his Bachelor of Science degree and continued on to Temple University School of Dentistry where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery. He held a private dental practice from 1978 to 2005.
Not only did he hold a private Dental Practice in 1995 he became Ohio State Representative for the 97th House District until 2002. Kerry has held many successful committee memberships through his tenure, he was Chairman of Primary and Secondary Education, Programs and Partnerships and Ohio Schools Technology Implementation Task Force, just to name a few of his roles within committees.
Kerry transitioned from his position of State Representative to a County Commissioner for Tuscarawas County which he held from 2003 to 2018. No worries as his journey was not over yet.
Holding positions on successful boards is nothing new for Kerry who has played vital roles on many boards from Harcatus, The Stark-Tuscarawas-Wayne-Solid Waste District, the Tuscarawas County Visitor and Convention Bureau and more. There are numerous leadership positions where he has been awarded several honors while he held his roles as State Representative and County Commissioner. He has received awards such as Outstanding Legislator or the Year, Ohio Hunger Hero, and giving the Light of Hope to Children and several other honors within his success.
He is living a successful life in his careers through the years, he retired in 2018 but just for a short term until a few years into his retirement he was asked to consider coming back to what he is so good at and fill a vacancy as the County Commissioner seat was vacant. With that Kerry is now fulfilling the Coalition Chair and Tuscarawas County Commissioner. Where he is currently working diligently to help empower youth to lead health and drug fee lives. With commitment and passion he is working with our youth and establishing outlets for them to prevent them from substance abuse.
With Kerry’s efforts working tirelessly towards prevention efforts for the Youth of Tuscarawas County which have been ongoing since the creation of the Tuscarawas County Anti-Drug Coalition. With the efforts of board members and hours of prevention measures Tuscarawas County Youth are safer and have established prevention measures at their fingertips.
