GiGi’s Playhouse Canton Provides a Safe Space for Local Individuals with Down syndrome – In 2017, a group of local parents and individuals formed a team with the goal to open a GiGi’s Playhouse in the Akron/Canton area to support individuals with Down syndrome with a safe space to explore their abilities, learn, and grow! Here at Newsymom, we’re so very lucky to be able to learn more about the shining beacons in our community. So when Megan Vance, the site manager of GiGi’s Playhouse Canton, invited us for a tour, of course, we said yes!
First Impression of GiGi’s Playhouse Canton: Just Like Home
Walking into GiGi’s Playhouse Canton is like stepping into your home. Immediately, your mood is lifted by the bright colors, comfy furniture, and fun artwork everywhere. After being greeted by Megan’s smiling face and signing in, the rest of Gigi’s Playhouse Canton is full of spaces to promote learning, growth, and exploration!
GiGi’s Playhouse Activities Are Made Possible By Local Donors
GiGi’s never wants cost to be a barrier for participating families. That’s why each GiGi’s Playhouse is funded by local donors, utilizes volunteers for tutoring and events, and hosts lots of activities to help support families. Here in Canton, they show their appreciation in the best way – art!

- Saturday, May 20th – GiGiFIT Acceptance Challenge – 9AM
- Wednesday, May 31st – Craft and Karaoke Night- 5:30PM
- Saturday, September 23rd – Putts & Pints for a Purpose
