Human Trafficking sting recovers 25 missing Ohio children

(Ohio) – About 200 children are missing currently in Northeast Ohio and a new task force is committed to tracking them down.

In the past 20 days, as part of Operation Safety Net, U.S. Marshals have worked closely with Cleveland, East Cleveland, and Newburgh Heights police departments in northeast Ohio to successfully recover 25 missing children between the ages of 13 and 18 years old.

Officials indicate one in four of the teens they recover as part of the ongoing sting operation are victims of human trafficking. Officials with the operation have reported locating the children in Mansfield, Akron, Bedford, Bedford Heights, West Side, East Side, and even in Miami, Fla.

According to reports, Cleveland and its surrounding cities continue to be the main focus currently of Operation Safety Net. However, members of the task force indicate they are covering all of northern Ohio as well with help from the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force. The cooperative sting operation is set to continue for several more weeks.
