The Tuscarawas County YMCA opened its new playground this week with a ribbon cutting. The playground was built with $175,000 in donations collected by the Dover-New Philadelphia Kiwanis Club.
According to WJER Radio, Brenda Cameron with the Kiwanis Club says the neighborhood needed a playground, and the club needed a way to celebrate its 100th anniversary. She says the Kiwanis Club has been collecting donations for about a year and a half, including a recent $11,500 contribution from the Dover Exchange Club.
YMCA CEO Meagan Shaheen invited the community to a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday to debut the project. She says most of the time, the playground will be open to anyone as long as the YMCA child care programs aren’t using it.
