Students and staff at Lexington Elementary raise $3,400 to purchase a bulletproof vest and other safety equipment for K9 Chase.
For the last few weeks, Lexington Elementary students have been making posters and collecting money to help buy K9 Chase a bulletproof vest.
The homeroom teachers of the classes that raised the most money had to agree to kiss a service dog.
On Tuesday, November 21st, Stark County Sheriff George T. Maier, Major William Weirtz, Chase’s handler CO Humes and SRO Deputy Bogunovich attended an assembly at the school.
4th and 5th Grade Science/Math teachers Robyn Rubel and Jessica Moracz presented the Stark County Sheriff’s Office with a check for $3,400, nearly double the amount needed for a bulletproof vest. The remaining funds will be used to purchase other items to benefit the K9 Officers.
Not only did the teachers line up to take their turn to kiss a dog, but Sheriff Maier and his deputies did as well…
“We are truly thankful and appreciative of the students and staff at Lexington Elementary and their desire to help keep Chase safe,” explained Sheriff George T. Maier. “On behalf of Chase and the entire Stark County Sheriff’s Office, thank you.”
