Local Organization Establishes Scholarship Fund for Mothers Continuing Their Education

(New Philadelphia, Ohio) – The local organization, Newsymom LLC is partnering with Kent State University at Tuscarawas to establish a scholarship fund that will support mothers continuing their education.

The Newsymom Scholarship will be made available to those enrolled or accepted as a student at the Kent State University Tuscarawas campus in the upcoming 2020 fall semester. Applicants must plan to claim a child as a dependent on their 2020 tax return.

“We’re excited to be working with Newysmom to offer such an opportunity,” explained Kent State Director of Advancement, Chad Conrad. “Scholarship support is so important for students, especially those who may be returning to school later in life.  This can be the difference in pursuing a college degree.”

The scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $500 to one nontraditional (returning adult), full-time or part-time student for any Kent State Tuscarawas program. It will be distributed as the full amount in the 2020 fall semester. Applicants are asked to visit Newsymom.com and click on ‘scholarship applications’ where they will be asked to submit either a 1-2-page essay or a 2-3-minute video answering one of two prompts.

“Continuing your education is hard and it can be even harder when you’re a parent,” added Newsymom Executive Director, Michaela Madison. “Newsymom is designed to support and encourage mothers and this scholarship allows us to do just that.”

The application deadline is July 1st, 2020. The award recipient will be announced in August prior to the start of the 2020 Fall semester.

  1. This is amazing! As a non-traditional student and mother I know first had how much a scholarship like this is needed. Unfortunately I have to finish my degree at Kent stark Fall 2020, but I’m so happy other moms will have the opportunity to apply. Thank you newsymom!
