Safety Month

Make Safety Your No. 1 Priority All Summer Long!

We all want to feel safe, but are you doing everything you can to actually practice safety in the workplace, home, and community?

This is Public Health is brought to you in partnership with the Tuscarawas County Health Department.

The National Safety Council (NSC) is celebrating its 25th year of National Safety Month. Every June the council and partners recognize and advocate the importance of practiced safety in the workplace and other spaces.

The NSC offers training and information to encourage employers and employees, adult and teen drivers, and members of the community to stay safe and vigilant when going about their day.

Summer Safety

Looking for key ways you and your family can stay safe this summer? The NSC offers great advice!

  • Bicycling and skateboarding are great ways to exercise and have fun. Be aware of your surroundings- both on the roads and bike paths. Always wear a helmet and proper safety gear!
  • Playgrounds offer kids an opportunity to burn their energy, but injuries on the playground are a common occurrence. Always keep an eye on your child and encourage them to stick with age-appropriate structures.
  • Avoid the heat and the bugs this summer. Heatstroke and other heat-related injuries are common during warm months. Take a break from the hot weather and drink plenty of water. Avoid mosquitoes and other summer bugs with repellent and spray.
  • Enjoy professional firework displays from a safe distance and do not set them off at home.
  • When boating or swimming always be vigilant and wear proper floatation gear, especially if you are not a confident swimmer.
